Candace Knapp will be bringing some paintings and also talking about her transition from sculpture to painting. She will explain her process for coming up with ideas and how they turn into paintings.
She will explain how she gets certain light effects. She will bring some copies of her book, “Messages from Imaginary Friends”, as well.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
The human mind is a phe- nomenon, a palace of mirrors, a kaleidoscope of images. When viewing an ambiguous painting we often bring our own personal images and past experiences mixing them with what we see on thecanvas in an attempt to findmeaning. The same thing some- times happens when people look at clouds, tea leaves or shapesfloating on the surface of water. Our minds are always trying to fit the pieces together and “make sense” of life. In this way, what we see when we look at a painting is not only what is there but also a picture of our own mind. My recent work is a play of light and shadow, shapes, colors and textures that are a portal to an inner world.
