This is a 2-day workshop. The cost is $240 for TRA members; $280 for non-members.
Classes will be held on Saturday, January 11 and Sunday, January 12 from 10-5 p.m.
Artist/Instructor Robert J. Simone says that the most closely held secret in painting is that there are no secrets! Simone says that great painting flows from mastering the basics. The biggest key to painting vibrant Florida landscapes is mastering the ability to paint sunlight! The primary emphasis of this workshop will be on the principles involved in painting convincing light. The colors, values and techniques involved in achieving a vibrant light will be thoroughly explored.The secondary emphasis will be on choosing subject matter, cropping and composing.
The course is suitable for all levels from beginning to advanced. The workshop begins with a demonstration on Jan 5th, 2025, from 2pm–3:30pm at the Old Hyde Park Art Center in Tampa. Classes resume Jan 11th and 12th, 2025, from 10am–4pm.
As an instructor, Robert has been described as very passionate, extremely knowledgeable, patient and kind. He can meet you where you are and give you the information most critical to your growth. His teaching style is a stream of consciousness approach that drawson his vast studies and experience. Although highly focused he is very lighthearted and fun loving. Good things happen when you paint!
Tampa Bay’s own, nationally known artist, Robert J. Simone insists that good things happen when you paint! “I really believe that,” he says. “I’m living proof that it’s true. I was a late bloomer, who started taking classes and workshops when I was in my 40’s. I just kept my head down and kept painting. I’m still pinching myself over the awards and recognition that has come my way.” Simone says that the secret to constant growth as an artist lies in mastering the basics. Thestrength of his own work is his mastery of vibrant color and convincing light. Robert recently won the Grand Prize a tPlein Air Easton 2024! Other recent awards include FirstPrize in the Quickpaint Competition at Olmsted Plein Air Invitational in Atlanta, Ga, 2024, Best Landscape at the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society(NOAPS), Best of America Small Works Exhibition 2023 and BestMarine/Seascape at Oil Painters of America(OPA)Eastern Regional2023.
