About the Artist:
Our lives are made up of serendipity and twists of fate; a series of choices we make and choices made for us by others; and finding and being found. For me, these paths have converged to define me as the person and the artist I am today.
My art is inspired by life’s moments along these paths. Living and traveling through England, Scotland, and Ireland. Musical concepts. Literary works. Everyday objects. Photography. Complex and rewarding relationships. Colour, lines, contrast, form and movement.
I didn't set out to be a specific type of artist, but as my portfolio evolved so did my exploration of colour and art mediums. Iegan to notice patterns I hadn't intended but am now pleased with. My unique colour palate combined with both traditional and non-traditional methodologies result in abstract, intuitive art where colour and line playfully interact. This allows me to explore colour and its saturation for colour’s sake. My current preferred mediums are oils and encaustic.
Francine J Bauer currently lives and works in Tampa, Florida.
About the Workshop:
Intro and basics of the encaustic medium.
Encaustic is a fun and versatile medium made from beeswax and damar resin. Colour can also be added to your clear medium and is applied while heated to approximately 220 degrees. The medium is then applied in layers and fused with a heat gun between each layer.
In this class we will cover: Safety, encaustic medium, substrates, tools, and techniques including photo transfers, oil sticks, embedding, lines and mark making, gold leaf, texture and using organic materials. Students will leave with 3-4 finished pieces.
What to Bring:
Some items students may want to bring from home: Photos and photos copied onto cheap copy paper, Kinko’s is best, Don’t forget to transpose the photo copy if there is lettering involved. some suggested items to be brought from home for embedding, buttons, shells, small metal objects, photos, etc. Where ever their imagination will take them!
Something to drink and a bag lunch to eat.
Workshop fee:
$50 for members, $65 for non members, plus $30 materials fee, all encaustic materials provided
