About This Workshop
In this workshop we will focus on a variety of wet-into-wet techniques utilizing floral references. Students are free to use their own photo reference if preferred. If you are new to wet-into–wet painting, choose simple floral shapes (large simple petals) like tulips, poppies, magnolias etc. All watercolor skill levels are welcome.
Special Recording/ Replay Option
For those who cannot attend this workshop in person, TRA and Linda Wokoun will offer the option of receiving the recording of the demonstrations from the workshop and a separate Zoom call with Linda to review their work, answer questions, etc. The call will be mutually scheduled between Linda and the student. If you are interested in this option, please register for the workshop below using the appropriate payment option and email Kathy Durdin to let her know that you want this option. About the Artist
Based in South West Florida, water media artist Linda Wokoun leverages the natural characteristics of water to bring energy and movement to her paintings. She likes to incorporate both abstract and representational elements in her work and believes that water media is particularly well suited to her approach. Her process is wet into wet, blending colors and creating textures directly on the painting surface.
Linda has dreamed about life as an artist since childhood but has only recently had the luxury of painting and studying watercolor full time. Linda is a signature member of the Florida Sun Coast Watercolor Society where she regularly exhibits and has won several awards. She is a member of the Florida Watercolor Society and the Transparent Watercolor Society of America where she has also exhibited. Linda is a popular workshop instructor teaching throughout the Florida area.
Supplies Needed:
Please bring any good quality, cold pressed watercolor paper, either 140 or 300lb. We will be painting on a half sheet. I will do my best to help you make use of the supplies that you already have on hand, so please bring whatever paints and brushes you normally use in your watercolor practice. Don’t forget water containers, spray bottle that creates mist, and paper towels and a variety of round and large flat brushes. In addition, you may want to consider adding the following supplies.
Paper: One ½ sheet cold pressed watercolor paper and several small sheets of practice watercolor paper. (1/4 sheet or smaller) Backs of “failed” paintings are a good choice. Just be sure that your “practice” paper is the same quality that you normally use for painting.
Paint: You don’t need every color listed. One from each category is fine
· Warm Blue: Antwerp or Prussian Blue. Winsor Newton is the only company that makes Antwerp. Prussian is standard in most brands. Manganese Blue or Peacock are also good
· Cool Blue: Any Cobalt or Utramarine Blue. Indigo or Paynes Blue gray can also be helpful for adding cool darks
· Warm Yellow: New Gamboge or Carr Yellow by American Journey. New Gamboge by Daniel Smith, Holbein, QOR, or Graham are all good. Avoid WN New Gamboge because it tends to be very brown instead of clear, warm, yellow. Quinacridone Gold is also fine
· Cool Yellow: Any cool, light yellow. Cadmium Yellow Pale, Aureolin, Winsor Lemon, Sour Lemon etc. are all fine choices
· Cool Red: Alizarine Crimson, Permanente Rose, Wild Fuchsia, Rambling Rose etc. are all cool reds
· Warm Red: Scarlet Lake, Geranium, Vermillion, Pyrole Red. Any red with a yellow/orange undertone
· Bridging Browns: Quinacridone Sienna or Burnt Sienna any brand. Daniel Smith Quin Sienna is great. So is Mission
· Transparent Orange: Orange Lake by Maimeri Blu is a gorgeous color. Any transparent orange will work. Cadmium can work but a little more tricky
· Cool Pink or Magenta: Opera, Wild Fuchsia by American Journey, Quinacridone Magenta, Quinacridone Pink, Quin Violet, Rambling Rose etc. will all work. Bright Violet by Holbein is beautiful and very useful
· Warm Violet: Perylene Violet or Perylene Maroon. Brown Madder or any red-Brown would also work
Additional Pigments if you already own:
· Cool Violet: Ultramarine Violet, Bright Violet Holbein, Blue Violet
· Warm Green: Sap and Green Gold are both good
· Turquoise: Cobalt Turquoise Light, Cobalt Teal, Peacock, Ultramarine Turquoise, and June Bug are all great.
Additional Supplies:
· Misting Spray bottle
· Hair Dryer very helpful for negative painting
· Masking Fluid -optional
