They're portable, easy toset up and clean up (no mess!), great for details and precision and don't require manyadditional supplies. You will create two small colored pencil projects. No prior drawingexperience is necessary, as line drawings will be provided.

Artist Statement:

I have enjoyed drawing since childhood and was influenced by many artistic family members. I did well in high school art classes and wanted to major in art when I went to college. My professor said that my style was too realistic and I wouldn't make it as an artist, so I changed my major to Special Education. I had a rewarding career teaching students with multiple disabilities for 30 years. I began drawing again in May 2016 when my husband gifted me with art lessons. Since then, my work has been shown in a variety of art shows and venues throughout Tampa and Brandon, including two juried art exhibitions. Currently I teach classes at Creative Junk Therapy and Center Place Fine Arts and Civics Association in Brandon. I am grateful for opportunities to combine my love of teaching with my love of art. My work continues to be representational. There are people, along with my art professor from years ago, who will argue that realism lacks creativity and is merely a copy of a photograph. However, I enjoy the process of capturing details and textures with colored pencils, and I believe in doing what comes naturally. Because they are a time consuming medium, I also combine soft pastel sticks, pastel pencils, oil pastels, and markers with colored pencils to speed up the drawing process and reduce the physical strain. I also enjoy the challenge of finding new combinations of materials and learning new techniques. I hope my art inspires curiosity about the creative process and an appreciation for colored pencils as a fine art medium.
