With each artwork I create, I spend nearly as much time in the field as I do putting acrylic to canvas. Whether it be hiking, diving or photography trips, it is my mission to capture and tell the stories of nature for our commeunity to connect more deply with the environment that we depend on for survival, and so we may feel inspired to protect and restore our home for the next generation.
In this demo, we will be playing with acrylics on canvas; specifically, we will learn how to develop a realistic marine gradient using just four colors and paying special attention to those lovely light rays that add so much depth to a marine artwork! I have included an example of a Humpback Whale family for you to see how you can add a subject over the light rays for a truly magical effect. All you will need is size 6 flat brush and a size 2 round brush to create this entire piece on an 8"x10" canvas. The colors I recommend include Turquoise, Phthalo Blue, Teal, and Titanium White. My preferred brand is Golden Acrylics, but feel free to use any brand you have on hand! I can't wait to paint with you! So plan on painting along!
